Merton
The borough of Merton was formed in 1965 from the boroughs of Mitcham, Wimbledon, Merton and Morden. The history of Merton really started in 1236 with the signing of the Statute of Merton limiting the powers of the monarchy. Later an important trading and industrial region it was populated by more of London's gentry after the railway reached the suburb in the 19th century.
