The name Penryn, comes from the Cornish 'pen rynn', which means 'end of a point or promontory' which describes the location of Penryn perfectly at the head of the Penryn River. Once a major trading port, Penryn is still a popular sailing and yachting centre who can trace its history back to 1236 when it was enfranchised by the Bishop of Exeter. |
