St Blazey, or St Blaise was dominated by the extensive copper, tin and more recently, china clay mining operations. These operations transported their products firstly along the Par canal and later by rail to the harbour at Par.

The town has been know as Fanum then Landreth, and from about 1535 as St. Blasye after the saint who was said to have landed at Par.

More recently, St Blazey was the home of the Eden project
